Linux is a free and open source operating system that is compatible with many computers, fast, easy, and doesn’t get viruses like Windows will.
whylinux{}isbetter.[net]
ur kidding right?
Dude, they’re free… check vids on youtube on how to install them
wo i want a linux now how come i never see them in stores
This is the Emerald theme Xlarge
<3 linux
It’s an emerald theme. I too would like to know what one. But it can be used on any DE that is running compiz. Be it gnome, kde, or whatever.
wots the window decoration with the big X? Is that a gnome thing or is it available for KDE?
What is that emerald theme you’re using? I love it.
I used on this video a beryl setup. Beryl has been merged into compiz-fusion which i use now.
There are lots of wikis related to gentoo. also for compiz fusion. just search for gentoo wiki compiz-fusion.
I’ve had a setup like this in ubuntu and gnome before with compiz. I’m running gentoo and kde on one of my machines, but am not sure how to configure a setup similar to whats on your video demo. How in the world did you do that with gentoo and kde? Do you have a tutorial on how to do that? If not, are there any links you could suggest? It looks like your using compiz, right?
I’ve done this in ubuntu and gnome before, but never in gentoo and kde. It looks like your using compiz in your video demo, right? I’m running gentoo and kde on one of my machines, but have know idea how to get those types of effects setup in gentoo and kde. Do you have any tutorials or suggestions you could give me?
Gentoo comes with a plethora of utilities which make customization of the operating system much easier. The entire operating system is fitted to your needs, and much like a suit, it will perform better because of it. Gentoo is built ground-up by user preferences. Many system files have shorthand commands to access and/or update them. It also has a BSD-style port system.
In the right hands it can be MUCH faster and better than ubuntu.
In the wrong hands it will crash and burn, very easily.
Gentoo – For advanced users
Ubuntu – For basic users
if i understand correctly ubuntu is easier to use but gentoo is more customizable because gentoo comes with basically nothing and you have to build it yourself but ubuntu comes with a bunch of features you may or may not want my friend uses gentoo and he had to do a bunch of crap to get his graphics card installed he still hasn’t provided his cd drive with admin rights yet and its a real hassle but on the other hand his comp uses alot less resources then mine so yea it depends on how you see it
Search for “gentoo vs ubuntu”
It’s not easy to answer this question, cause there are different points of view.
How does Gentoo compare to Ubuntu?
I need to get a better box so I can have all the shinies in Compiz running. Right now I only have a 1.73 GHz with 128mb of graphics. The fire, water and reflection fx slow it down like a dog
plz use your distri doku to get graka installed
the music program i use called amarok
what is the music program you’re using? winamp?
Team Fortess2 is a source engine game and (not 100% sure though, atleast 95%) all source games can run on linux
Fazzy, can you tell me how I can install my video card? I have no idea why it won’t let me. Linux doesn’t even recognize my video card. It says that my system is not 3D compatible XD. I have 2 SLI 8600GT’s
I prefer PC gaming. It is uncomparable to console. I have downloaded Linux Open SuSe, and I am trying to get Wine to work. Wine is supposed to allow me to run windows programs on Linux. Thanks for the reply.
this is an kde desktop with amarok music app. there is no dock at the bottom, just desktop icons
OH HAI GUYS I HERD THIS SOUNDS BETTER IF I INSTALL GENTOO, IS THAT RIGHT?
